Why is a Protection against high touch current so important?
Medical devices and devices of a Medical Electrical System, which are used within the patient environment, demand very often an additional potential equalization connection. In combination with a power strip, instructs the IEC60601-1 to use an additional protective earth connection too. This is needed to keep the leakage current low enough and to protect the patient and the user against a too high touch current.
